Frequently Asked Questions About Rotary

What Exactly Is Rotary?

In a nutshell...Rotary International is a worldwide fellowship of business and professional people who have a burning desire to "give back!" They accomplish this through service - and service takes many, many forms. Some Rotarians work in local volunteer programs mentoring disadvantaged or at-risk students. Some Rotarians through their clubs underwrite the vaccination of babies and pre-school children or help with medical clinics serving the poor and disadvantaged. Some Rotarians travel to other countries to help build medical clinics, schools and water wells. Some travel at their own expense to assist volunteer doctors in offering healthcare to the desperately poor. And all Rotarians strive for a better understanding of their fellow man, and for the development of a true worldwide fellowship of man with world peace, health and prosperity for all.

How Much Time Does Rotary Take?

It depends on you. The minimum is to attend 60% of the meetings which last a little over an hour once a week. In time you will be asked to become involved in our service projects. Rotary is a vibrant and active service club. It is not an old timer’s noon luncheon club. It does take commitment to service.

What Do I Get Out Of Rotary?

You get back from Rotary what you put into it - and that can be a lot! There is tremendous personal satisfaction from working with fellow Rotarians in making the community and the world a better place to live. Service to others creates the internal satisfaction that gives value and meaning to your own life. You can make life long friends and business acquaintances. You will also receive respect for being a Rotarian anywhere you travel, in the USA and around the globe.

What Type of Fund Raising Projects Do You Do?

We keep this to just one large fund raiser program per year. We host a fund raiser in March or April. Approximately 700 people attend and enjoy an evening of great food, fellowship and dancing. The profits are used to fund our charitable programs.
